On 6 May 2022 at about 11.55pm, a red Volkswagen Golf was found overturned on the road at Kiltoy, Letterkenny, after a reported collision. Matthew Dougan, a 29-year-old of Ashfield, Letterkenny, who is a serving member of An Garda Síochána, was arrested and a breath test recorded 57 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath, above the 22mg limit. He was charged with drink-driving and contested the charge, which first came before Letterkenny District Court on 3 July 2024 and was adjourned to 9 July 2024 at Dungloe District Court. Judge Éiteáin Cunningham later dismissed the case at Letterkenny District Court because no evidence was given about the time of driving, as reported on 19 July 2024.
