latest first- High Court dispenses with birth mother's consent in adoption case Adoption (dispensing with birth mother's consent)
Master D, a boy aged over five and under 10, was born to Ms A, a woman with a history of addiction to heroin and other drugs, and was born with Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome. Ms A, who was raped by two men soon after his birth and spent periods in prison during his early years, opposed the adoption application for Master D by his foster parents, which was supported by the Child and Family Agency and the Adoption Authority. On 28 May 2022, Mr Justice Max Barrett in the High Court dispensed with Ms A's consent, finding no real prospect of rehabilitation or family reunification. Master D is the youngest of four children, all in voluntary care, and his birth father consented to the adoption.
