Cases
latest first- Mary O'Sullivan given suspended sentence for €16,024 theft from Leargas petty cash Deception · Co. Dublin
Mary O'Sullivan, 52, a woman from Ballymun, Dublin, took €16,024 from her employer Leargas, a not-for-profit youth and education organisation, between 2016 and 2019 by falsifying receipts and keeping incomplete accounting records. A review into petty cash irregularities in 2019 led to her being interviewed voluntarily by Gardaí four times, and she subsequently pleaded guilty to one count of deception, four counts of using a false instrument, and four counts of false accounting. At Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, Judge Orla Crowe described her blaming of colleagues as a "shameful course of action." On 2 December 2024, O'Sullivan was given a two-year sentence fully suspended on a bond, with €16,024 ordered as restitution to Leargas.
Sentenced, 2 Dec 2024Convicted · 1 report - Housewife avoids jail for money laundering after online romance fraud Money laundering (on the basis of recklessness) · Co. Dublin
Mary O'Sullivan, a 52-year-old Irish housewife from Celbridge, Co Kildare, had her bank account used to move the proceeds of a €65,000 invoice redirection fraud after a man she met online, who claimed to be a US soldier stationed in Nigeria, asked her to set one up. The UK-based businesswoman who was the injured party lost over €65,000, a figure another source puts closer to €100,000, and none of the money has been recovered, though some assets were seized in Nigeria. O'Sullivan pleaded guilty to money laundering on the basis of recklessness, with the plea entered in April 2019. On 28 June 2024 Judge Martin Nolan suspended a two-year sentence in full, citing her vulnerabilities and low culpability.
