    A farmer punched and kicked his 64-year-old neighbour, Mary O'Brien Daly, at her home in Iniscarra, Co Cork, on 8 December 2021, after falsely accusing her of stealing his mother's post. Hugh O'Brien, 52, was charged with assault causing harm after the victim contacted gardaí. A jury at Cork Circuit Criminal Court unanimously convicted him in February 2024. He was sentenced to two and a half years in prison, with the last six months of a three-year term suspended, and ordered not to contact the victim after release.
