Two women were allegedly assaulted while canvassing for Catherine Connolly in the presidential election on North Strand Road, Dublin 1, shortly before 4pm on Friday 24 October 2025, as Sinn Féin leader Mary Lou McDonald joined the canvass. A video posted online shows a man verbally abusing the group and threatening to slap and deck the canvassers. A man in his 30s was arrested on Saturday 25 October and detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at a Garda station in the Dublin Metropolitan Region. He was charged with the alleged assault and is expected to appear before Court 1 at the Criminal Courts of Justice, Parkgate Street, on Monday 27 October 2025 at 10:30am.

On 16 July 2024, Richard McGreevy, a man from Rathfarnham, Co Dublin, posted a video on TikTok in which he threatened to shoot Sinn Féin leader Mary Lou McDonald and urged others to cut the throat of Garda Commissioner Drew Harris. He was arrested at his home in Rathfarnham on 18 July and charged under section 5 of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act 1997. He was refused bail at Dublin District Court on 19 July and remanded in custody. On 12 December 2024, McGreevy pleaded guilty to two counts of making a threat to kill or cause harm at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court. On 26 March 2025, Judge Nolan sentenced him to three and a half years in prison, with the final 15 months suspended on strict conditions.
