latest first- Tuam pub assault victim to appeal €1,500 compensation offer Assault · Co. Galway
In November 2010, a customer at the Hibernia Inn in Tuam kicked Mary Loftus, then the mayor of Tuam, off a door after an exchange of words while she was on crutches. The assailant, an unnamed woman, was brought before the courts and given a fine with no sentence. The assault left Loftus with an inoperable trapped nerve causing difficulties with speech and balance, forcing her to close the pub and leaving her unable to work for over 11 years. The Criminal Injuries Board offered her €1,500 in compensation in 2022, and she intends to appeal the decision.
