latest first- Man sentenced to five years for indecent assault in Louth Indecent assault · Co. Louth
Michael Griffin, a 76-year-old man from Drogheda, pleaded guilty to eight sample counts of indecent assault of twin sisters Mary and Regina Cooney, who were aged four to 12, between 1973 and 1982. The abuse took place during family visits to the sisters' grandfather's home and Griffin's home in Louth. Griffin initially denied the allegations in a garda interview but pleaded guilty on the date the case was listed for trial at Dundalk Circuit Court in November 2025. The sisters waived their right to anonymity so Griffin could be named. In January 2026, Judge Dara Hayes sentenced Griffin to five and a half years in prison, with the final six months suspended.
