  Martynas Jurkaitis, a 27-year-old Lithuanian man, was charged with a public order offence after acting in an intoxicated fashion in SuperValu Birr on April 17, where he was verbally abusive to gardaí, refused to leave, and resisted handcuffing before they used pepperspray. He pleaded guilty at Tullamore District Court in May 2023, where the court heard he had 56 previous convictions and had since obtained a full-time job as a mechanic in Birr. Judge Andrew Cody adjourned the sentence and remanded Jurkaitis on continuing bail to November 15, warning that any further charge would send him straight to Portlaoise prison.
