  • Guilty plea in Kinsale theft and false documents case, sentencing adjourned Theft · Co. Cork

Nessa Gilsenan, a 52-year-old woman, pleaded guilty to nine charges of theft and submitting false documents relating to the staff payroll system at Fishy Fishy restaurant in Kinsale, Co Cork. The charges, contrary to the Criminal Justice (Theft and Fraud Offences) Act 2001, cover a five-year period between 2017 and 2022, with individual sums ranging from €82 to €1,650 totalling more than €300,000. Gilsenan, an employee of the restaurant owned by TV chef Martin Shanahan and his wife Marie, first appeared at Bandon District Court in March 2025 facing 132 charges and was remanded on bail. At the Circuit Criminal Court in Cork in February 2026, she pleaded guilty to nine of those charges and handed over a €15,000 bank draft towards compensation. The court adjourned sentencing to 4 November to allow Gilsenan to sell a property to raise further compensation.
