• McDermott withdraws appeal in Donegal garda endangerment case Endangerment · Co. Donegal

Martin McDermott, 36, accelerated his car towards Garda Michael Kilcoyne at a Covid-19 checkpoint at Raymoghey, Manorcunningham, Co Donegal, on 14 April 2020, forcing the garda to jump out of the way. After a pursuit and crash, McDermott was found hiding in undergrowth and kicked Kilcoyne in the chest, knocking him to the ground. He pleaded guilty to endangerment, assault, drink-driving and driving without a licence at Donegal Circuit Court in March 2022 and was jailed for four years and nine months with a 15-year driving disqualification. In June 2024, McDermott withdrew his appeal against the severity of the sentence at the Court of Appeal.
