On 8 February 2020 at an address in Santry, Dublin, Martin Maughan (30) subjected his pregnant former partner, who was five months pregnant, to an attack lasting around one hour, causing soft tissue injuries. Maughan was arrested nearby while intoxicated and was initially deemed unfit for interview. He pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to one count of assault causing harm and one count of criminal damage. Judge Martin Nolan imposed a 20-month prison sentence on a Friday, reported on 3 March 2023.
