A fatal four-vehicle collision occurred at Knockreagh, Callan, County Kilkenny, at approximately 8:55am on 29 March 2022. The driver, Andrew Byrne, a man in his 60s, was taken to Cork University Hospital with serious injuries and later died, while a male youth in his late teens, a passenger in the same vehicle, was taken to Waterford University Hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Martin Gleeson, of Farmleigh, Cuffesgrange, was arraigned at Kilkenny Circuit Court in December 2023 and pleaded guilty to three charges including careless driving causing death. The case was adjourned for sentencing, with Judge Dara Hayes ordering victim impact statements.
