Martin Cahill, 54, of Orchard, Timahoe, appeared at Portlaoise District Court on 12 October 2026 accused of threatening and abusive behaviour at Market Square, Portlaoise, on 6 April 2025. He told Judge Andrew Gubbins he was not the person named in the summons and was not at the scene, and produced his birth certificate to the court. Garda Sergeant Jason Hughes confirmed the investigating Garda was satisfied the summons had been served on the correct man. The case was adjourned to 17 November 2026 for hearing with legal aid and Solicitor Brian Duffy assigned.
