On 22 November 2025 a garda saw a vehicle swerving on the N76 at Tullamaine, on the main Kilkenny City to Callan road, and followed it to Callan, where it turned suddenly. The garda stopped the car and spoke to the driver, Mark Stanley, of Tubrid, Woodsgift, Urlingford, who had slurred speech and was arrested; a breath test at Kilkenny Garda Station showed 59 mcg of alcohol per 100 mls of breath. Mr Stanley pleaded guilty at Kilkenny District Court, where Sergeant Morgan O'Connor gave evidence. The latest development, reported on 30 January 2026, is that Judge Geraldine Carthy convicted him of drink driving, fined him €200 and disqualified him from driving for two years.
