  Between 11 August and 12 October 2024, Mark Kelly, a 38-year-old man from Longford, stole goods from shops in Longford, including groceries from SuperValu at the Hazelwood Shopping Centre, and trespassed at the Longford Arms Hotel to steal alcohol. He pleaded guilty at Longford District Court to shoplifting and stealing goods valued over €1,000. Judge Bernadette Owens sentenced him to eight months in prison, with four months for the theft offences and eight months for the trespass to run concurrently, and ordered a probation report. Kelly was remanded in custody and the case was adjourned to 10 December 2024 for the reactivation of a suspended sentence.

  Between 25 March and 16 April 2023, Mark Kelly, a 36-year-old man of Camlin Mews, Longford, carried out five shoplifting incidents and two criminal damage incidents in Longford town. These included a break-in at Taipan Restaurant on Dublin Street, where coins totalling €200 were taken, and thefts from Lloyds Pharmacy in Longford Shopping Centre. Kelly pleaded guilty at Longford District Court, had been in custody since 18 April 2023, and was sentenced to eight months in prison, with a further eight-month term suspended for 12 months, as reported on 13 May 2023.
