  • Murder investigation opened into Navan man missing since 2022 Murder · Co. Meath

Mark Duffy, 43, was last seen on 3 October 2022 in Navan, Co. Meath, where he had been living homeless in a tent in the weeks before his disappearance. He was reported missing by a family member on 13 October 2022, and searches in Navan and the River Boyne area found no trace of him. On 30 September 2026, Gardaí reclassified the missing person investigation as a murder inquiry, saying they believe he was killed, probably by people known to him. A dedicated team at Navan Garda Station, led by a Senior Investigating Officer, is continuing the investigation and has renewed a public appeal for information.

  • Trial date set for gardaí on burglary and perverting justice, Dublin Perverting the course of justice; burglary; false imprisonment · Co. Dublin

Three Dublin-based Irish gardaí, Mark Duffy (39), Ciaran Whelan (51) and Robert Gorman (43), were sent forward for trial in May 2024 on charges of burglary, perverting the course of justice and, for Whelan, false imprisonment of a woman, following a Garda Anti-Corruption Unit investigation into a Dublin unit's 2021 activities. The alleged offences, committed between June and September 2021, include burglaries at flats on Kenilworth Road, Dublin 6, and Mountjoy Square North, Dublin 1, and a false imprisonment at Saint John's Road West, Dublin 8. Duffy was arrested on 7 March 2024 and Whelan and Gorman on 11 March 2024; all were remanded on bail and the DPP directed trial on indictment. A fourth garda, Colum Ryan (35), was charged earlier with burglary and false imprisonment and is due in court separately. A trial date of 23 February 2026 was set at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court in July 2024.

  • Man loses bid to halt trial over alleged indecent assault on child in late 1980s Indecent assault

A man was accused of indecently assaulting a child between January 1987 and December 1988, roughly 36 years before the report. The complainant made a statement to gardaí in December 2017, gardaí interviewed the man in April 2019, and the DPP directed a prosecution in August 2021. The man faces a single charge of indecent assault. On 12 March 2024 Ms Justice Marguerite Bolger rejected his application to stop the trial over inordinate delay and stress, and the trial is due to proceed later this year.
