On 10 September 2021, Endre Borsos, a 47-year-old Hungarian man, was found asleep and highly intoxicated with beer cans and a large knife near Sheemore, Kilclare, Co Leitrim, and threatened Garda Mark Butler that he would kill him. Borsos pleaded guilty at Carrick-on-Shannon District Court on 22 April 2022 to threatening to kill, possession of a knife, and intoxication in public. The case was adjourned for a probation report. On 29 July 2022, he was convicted and sentenced to two months in prison, suspended for 12 months.

Mark Butler, a 48-year-old plasterer from Limerick, admitted stealing six bottles of spirits worth €314.97 from Tesco in Portlaoise on 27 June 2020. He was followed by security and arrested, and all the goods were recovered in a saleable condition. At Portlaoise District Court in May 2022, the court heard he has 118 previous convictions, with his theft career beginning after a stroke in 2016 that left him with impulse control behaviour. Judge Patricia Cronin sentenced him to four months, to run concurrent with a sentence he is currently serving.
