Mark Bowhan, a 34-year-old man from Philipstown, Dunleer, was convicted by a jury in April 2021 of assault causing harm on his ex-partner, a woman, at her mid-Louth home on 22 October 2018. He arrived very drunk and angry around 12:30am, pushed past her, grabbed her by the ear, banged her head against a wall, and kicked her five or six times while she slid down the wall. The case was adjourned in October 2021 to establish the victim's view of a €2,000 token of remorse, which she rejected. In May 2022, Judge Mary O'Malley Costello at Dundalk Circuit Court jailed him for three years and two months, with the final six months suspended, and imposed conditions including a no-contact order and a 30-week Choices programme.
