Darren Brodigan, a 35-year-old man, was struck by a car while crossing Poppintree Park Lane, Ballymun, shortly before 1am on 27 November 2022 and died in hospital from massive brain injuries. Marius Mihai Popa, a 41-year-old man, was driving home from work as a mechanic at the time. Popa pleaded guilty to one count of careless driving causing death at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court. He was sentenced to eight months, suspended in full on conditions, and disqualified from driving for one year.
