latest first- Daughter of Marie Kilmartin urges cold-case review 30 years after her disappearance Murder · Co. Laois
Marie Kilmartin, a 35-year-old woman from Ballinasloe, Co Galway (some reports say 34), disappeared from her home in Beladd, Portlaoise, Co Laois, on 16 December 1993 after being last seen at about 4pm. Her body was found on 10 June 1994 in a bog near Mountmellick, and she had been strangled; gardaí are treating her disappearance and death as murder. Two men were arrested in 1994 and released without charge, and the same two men were arrested and questioned again in 2008. Three people have been arrested in total, but no one has been charged, and in February 2025 a TG4 documentary on the case aired while her daughter Áine renewed her appeal for information and a cold-case review.
