    On the evening of St Patrick's Day 2023, at about 9.30pm on The Parade in Kilkenny City centre, Marie Barcoe approached two gardaí. Inspector Barry Smith told the court she was intoxicated, that her behaviour worsened after the gardaí asked her to leave the area, and that she pushed one garda and kicked the other. A separate incident at Kilkenny Garda Station on 23 November 2024 also led to a fine. At Kilkenny District Court, Ms Barcoe was convicted of assaulting the two gardaí and of a public order offence, and the reported fines total €300, with the outcome reported in late January 2025.
