Maria Stefan, a 33-year-old woman from Mulhuddart, Dublin, pleaded guilty to fraudulently claiming €18,045.60 in one-parent and rental allowances from the State between December 2017 and December 2018. An investigation began in February 2021 after a social welfare inspector raised concerns, and Stefan was arrested following a search of her then-partner's house in June 2021, where she made admissions including that an online account used to give an address approximately 54 times was hers. In December 2024, Judge Orla Crowe directed her to complete 240 hours of community service in lieu of two years and three months in prison, plus one year with probation services.
