  Three women were injured in an alleged hatchet attack at a house in Glenwood Estate, Dundalk, on the afternoon of 3 May 2024, while family members were gathered for a birthday tea. woman Patricia Muckian, 81, was seriously injured and died at Beaumont Hospital, Dublin, on 13 May 2024, while two other women, Mairead, 75, and Maria Muckian, were also taken to hospital. man Nicholas Muckian, 47, was arrested at the scene and charged with three counts of assault causing harm and one count of unlawfully intimidating another person with a hatchet. He appeared at Dundalk District Court on 8 May and was remanded in custody, and on 5 June was further remanded to appear on 3 July, with directions from the DPP still awaited and further charges possible.
