  Barbie Kardashian, a transgender woman aged 21 of no fixed abode, was jailed for five and a half years with the final 12 months suspended for threatening to torture, rape and kill her mother, Maria Luque. The threats were made at Coovagh House, a secure special care unit in Limerick where Kardashian was a resident, on dates in 2020. Gardaí were made aware after staff contacted them, and in May 2022 a jury at Limerick Circuit Court convicted her of seven counts relating to her mother and acquitted her of four counts relating to Michael Mannix. On 16 March 2023 Judge Tom O'Donnell imposed the sentence, backdated to 9 May 2022, and the latest development is the two-year post-release obligations attached to the suspended portion.
