  A silver Skoda Octavia left the road at Cragmore on the R518 Askeaton to Rathkeale road at around 1am on Saturday 21 August 2021, struck a wall, a ditch, and a telephone pole that smashed through the windscreen into the head of front-seat passenger Myles Harty, 20, a man from Askeaton, who was due to marry Kate Quilligan at St Munchin's Church, Limerick City, later that afternoon. The driver, Shane Harty, 21, a man of Shannon, Co Clare, the victim's first cousin and groomsman, was arrested at the scene and released without charge pending a file to the DPP. He was subsequently charged with dangerous driving causing death and pleaded guilty to the lesser offence of careless driving causing death at Limerick Circuit Criminal Court on 30 October 2024. Judge Colin Daly remanded him on continuing bail for sentencing, and a sentencing hearing was held on 25 November 2024 at which victim impact statements from the fiancée and the victim's parents were read.
