Marcella Duffy, a 62-year-old woman from Malahide, was sentenced at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to a fully suspended two-and-a-half-year term and a six-year driving ban after pleading guilty to dangerous driving causing the death of cyclist John Walsh. Walsh, a man in his 40s and father of three from Malahide, was struck by Duffy's car when it crossed onto the other side of the road on the Malahide Road in Kinsealy, north Dublin, at around 9:30am on 18 February 2024. He was taken to Beaumont Hospital with serious injuries and died later that day. Duffy was charged on 13 February 2025 at Coolock Garda Station, appeared at Dublin District Court on 21 February 2025 where the DPP directed trial on indictment, and the case was adjourned to 21 March 2025 before she pleaded guilty at the Circuit Court.
