Marcel Kusenda, a 48-year-old Slovakian man, was found with serious head injuries outside a house in Piercetown, Newbridge, Co Kildare at 10:30am on 8 March 2023 after being assaulted by his housemate, and he died at Naas General Hospital on 10 March. Damian Szatkowski, a 38-year-old Polish man with 61 previous convictions, was arrested on 21 April 2023 and charged with murder. He pleaded guilty to manslaughter at the Central Criminal Court in October 2024. On 17 February 2025, Ms Justice Eileen Creedon sentenced him to six and a half years' imprisonment, backdated to April 2023.
