On 10 February 2021, Garda Barry Gallagher stopped a silver Volkswagen Bora on Port Road, Letterkenny, and Dean Palmer, 21, of Derry, said the occupants were travelling to Letterkenny for a pizza. Palmer and Luke Harkin, 21, of Derry, were charged with breaching Covid-19 travel restrictions. At Letterkenny District Court in January 2022, Judge Deirdre Gearty convicted Palmer in absentia and fined him €250. Harkin, represented by solicitor Patsy Gallagher, was given the option to make a €150 donation to Letterkenny Youth and Community Club to have the matter struck out, otherwise facing conviction and a €250 fine.
