latest first- Former teacher sentenced to 10 years for indecent assault in Blackrock Sexual abuse (indecent assault) · Co. Dublin
Peter Kelly, 73, a former maths teacher at Willow Park primary school in Blackrock, Dublin, was sentenced to 10 years in prison on 8 December 2025 for 28 counts of indecent assault of eight boys aged 10 to 13 in the 1970s and 1980s. The abuse involved Kelly taking boys under his black cloak and running his hands over their torsos and buttocks under the guise of tickling. A complaint was made in 2001, leading to Kelly's resignation in 2004, but the DPP decided not to prosecute at that time. Kelly was convicted by a Dublin Circuit Criminal Court jury after a two-week trial in November 2025 and did not accept the verdict. Judge Elma Sheahan imposed a global consecutive sentence of 10 years, noting aggravating factors including breach of trust and age disparity, and mitigating factors including no prior convictions and ill health.
