Lukasz Balgo (27), from Maighglas, Carrick-on-Shannon, County Leitrim, faced charges for repeatedly driving without insurance, with offences involving five different cars between December 2021 and January 2025. Several Gardaí detected the offences, including Garda Burke, who caught him driving without insurance again in January 2025. On 18 February 2025 he appeared before Judge Sandra Murphy, where his solicitor, Tom MacSharry, asked for a more lenient sentence, and the judge said imprisonment was the only appropriate response. A report published on 21 February 2025 says Balgo was sentenced to four months in prison for the offence involving Garda Burke, received a four-year driving disqualification, eighty hours of community service for an offence involving Garda Finnegan, and was fined for drug possession and drug driving.
