Pedro Cifali, 39, a Brazilian man, stabbed Lucia Nezbalova, 43, a woman, in the neck, back, head, stomach and arms at the front door of her home in Garnish Square, Waterville, Dublin 15, on 10 May 2024. He had tracked her using an electronic tag under her car and wore a disguise of a baseball cap, blonde wig and lighter-coloured beard. She survived only because a nearby doctor who had just arrived home from work heard her screams and kept her alive until an ambulance arrived. Cifali was arrested, charged and pleaded guilty to attempted murder. On 9 February 2026, Justice Eileen Creedon at the Central Criminal Court sentenced him to 16 years, a further 12 months suspended on condition he engage with probation services, backdated to 15 May 2024.
