On 14 May 2023 a female passenger complained that Lucas Bittencourt, a 39-year-old Brazilian taxi driver, repeatedly asked whether she was single or lived alone and told her she looked sexy during a journey from Dublin city centre to Northwood, Dublin 9. The National Transport Authority prosecuted him, and in March 2024 at Dublin District Court he pleaded guilty to using obscene and offensive language toward a passenger, while a second count was later withdrawn. The defence asked for the Probation of Offenders Act to apply, and the case was adjourned while he arranged to pay. On 13 January 2025 Judge Anthony Halpin applied the Act so no conviction was recorded, after the driver had paid €1,600 redress and €400 towards prosecution costs.
