Two Brazilian men, Lucas Alues (25) and Valter Soares (26), were arrested on 8 September 2024 on arrival at Terminal 1 of Dublin Airport with cocaine packages worth just over €158,000. Each was charged under the Misuse of Drugs Act with unlawful possession and importation of cocaine and having it for sale or supply. They appeared before Judge Gerard Jones at Dublin District Court on 13 September, where both made no reply to the charges. The judge remanded both men in custody, and the defence said they wished their cases sent forward to the Circuit Court on signed guilty pleas.
