Two men, Lowe Kim Swee (35, Malaysian) and Chong Chong Nen (45), were charged with unlawful importation and possession of cannabis after landing at Dublin Airport Terminal 1 on 2 June 2024 carrying 21 kilogrammes of suspected cannabis valued at €420,000. They appeared at Dublin District Court on 3 June, where Mr Swee made no reply to the charges and his solicitor said he believed he was importing bird nests rather than drugs. Mr Swee did not apply for bail and asked that his case be sent forward on a signed plea to the Circuit Court, while the judge deferred ruling. The co-defendant has not indicated a plea and did not apply for bail. Both men were granted legal aid and are due back in court on Wednesday.
