Robert O'Connor, a 32-year-old man from Drumgowna, Co Louth, fatally stabbed his mother Louise O'Connor, 56, his father Mark O'Connor, 54, and his younger brother Evan O'Connor, 27, at their home between 28 and 29 September 2025. The three victims sustained a combined 139 stab wounds. He was arrested on 29 September, charged with three counts of murder on 30 September, and pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity or guilty of manslaughter by diminished responsibility. After a three-week trial at the Central Criminal Court, a jury returned unanimous verdicts of not guilty of murder and guilty of manslaughter by diminished responsibility on 4 November 2026.

Patricia O'Connor, a woman, was killed at her home in Mountainview Park, Rathfarnham, Dublin 14 on 29 May 2017, and her body was dismembered and scattered around the Dublin and Wicklow mountains. Kieran Greene, a 37-year-old man and former partner of her daughter Louise O'Connor, was charged with her murder and pleaded not guilty. In February 2020, Louise O'Connor, Stephanie O'Connor and Keith Johnston were found guilty of impeding the apprehension or prosecution of Greene, while Augustine O'Connor pleaded guilty to reporting his wife missing while knowing she was dead. The Court of Appeal dismissed Greene's murder conviction appeal on 11 November 2022, rejecting the provocation defence and other grounds.
