latest first- IRA victims demand arrest over 1979 Mountbatten murder in Sligo Murder
On 27 August 1979, a bomb exploded on the fishing boat Shadow V off Mullaghmore, Co. Sligo, killing Lord Louis Mountbatten, Lady Doreen Brabourne, his 14-year-old grandson Nicholas Knatchbull, and boat boy Paul Maxwell. In May 2024, former IRA commander Michael Hayes told The Irish Mail on Sunday that he designed and masterminded the attack. Families of the 1974 Birmingham pub bombing victims, led by Julie Hambleton, demanded that Hayes be arrested. Hayes has previously denied responsibility for the two 1974 Birmingham bombings that killed 21 people.
