  Barry Murphy, 41, of Grogan, Ballycumber, Co Offaly, was convicted by a jury in 2024 of three counts of raping, coercively controlling, sexually assaulting, assaulting and falsely imprisoning his former partner Lisa O'Meara between February 2018 and July 2020. The offences took place in Co Offaly, apart from one assault committed abroad on a holiday, and the trial was held at Tullamore. In December 2024, Mr Justice Kerida Naidoo sentenced Murphy to a global term of 15 and a half years, with the final year suspended on strict conditions. Murphy is now appealing his conviction at the Court of Appeal, where his barristers argued in October 2026 that cross-examination of the victim was rendered ineffective when she professed no recollection of events.
