Lisa Doyle, a 24-year-old former model, was strangled to death with a shoelace by her fiancé Gerard O'Hara in Leighlinbridge, Co Carlow, on 20 September 2009. O'Hara walked into Carlow Garda Station at 6am the following Sunday with a handwritten note saying he had done something terrible. He pleaded guilty to murder in the Central Criminal Court in October 2010. Lisa's family say she had been living under coercive control and fear O'Hara could be freed in less than four years. The case features in episode 2 of the TG4 documentary series Marú inár Measc, airing 7 February 2024.
