  Michael McCarthy pleaded guilty at Kilkenny Circuit Court to burglary at a house on Gaol Road, Kilkenny, on 1 October 2021, and to criminal damage and assaulting a garda at a car on Rioch Street, Kilkenny, on 21 November 2020. During the criminal damage incident, McCarthy threw a glass beer bottle at Linda McCarthy, who was asleep in her home with her four young children, and two rocks were found inside the damaged car, with damage valued at €4,000. McCarthy also kicked a garda in the groin while being kept seated. He was sentenced to two years and six months for the burglary, one year for each criminal damage charge, and four months for assaulting the garda, all to run concurrently and suspended in full for two years on probation conditions.
