On 6 March 2025, customs officers alerted gardaí to a pallet bound for an address on Kennelsforth Road, Palmerstown, Dublin, and the National Drugs Unit arranged a controlled delivery at 11:20pm. The pallet held 28.5 kg of cannabis worth €571,000, hidden under Chinese take-away supplies, and Lin Yan, a 40-year-old Chinese man, has been in custody since that date on drug charges. He appeared at the Circuit Criminal Court on signed guilty pleas, where the judge found special and exceptional circumstances allowing departure from the 10-year mandatory minimum, set a six-year headline sentence and imposed an actual sentence of three years backdated to 7 March.
