latest first- High Court upholds Dublin Covid-19 regulations in pub breach case Breach of Covid-19 regulations · Co. Dublin
Four men, including former Dublin lord mayor Nial Ring, his sons Stephen and Darragh, and business partner Liam McGrattan, were found upstairs in the Ref pub in Ballybough, Dublin, at around 11pm on April 17, 2020, and charged with breaching pandemic regulations that barred travel more than 2km from home. Ring and McGrattan, the pub's owner, were additionally charged with holding or participating in an event. The men denied the charges in the District Court and brought a High Court challenge arguing the regulations were invalid because the Seanad was not sitting after the February 2020 general election. In May 2024, Mr Justice David Nolan ruled that all grounds of the challenge must fail, finding the legislation and regulations constitutional.
