latest first- Body of Leitrim farmer Liam Farrell exhumed in cold case review Assault causing death (death under investigation) · Co. Leitrim
Liam Farrell, an 87-year-old farmer from Rooskey, County Leitrim, was found dead outside the back door of his home in January 2020 after a night socialising locally; sources give 12 or 13 January as the date he was found. The original postmortem concluded he died of severe coronary artery disease, a file sent to the DPP led to no prosecution, and a 2024 inquest recorded an open verdict. No suspect has been named in the sources, and his family believes he was assaulted before his death. In April 2026 his body was exhumed at Cloonmorris Cemetery as part of a serious crime review and taken to Dublin for a forensic postmortem, and no arrest or charge has been reported.
