  In the early hours of 8 November 2024, a number of shots were fired at a family home on Hyde Road, south side of Limerick city, where six family members were at home and no one was injured. The prosecution alleges a gunman tapped the door four times with a shotgun and then fired two shots. Liam Casey, a man aged 43, was arrested and charged on 29 August 2025 with possessing a 12-gauge double-barrelled sawn-off shotgun with intent to endanger life and cause serious injury to property. He appeared before Limerick District Court on 30 August 2025, did not apply for bail, and was remanded in custody. His trial began at Limerick Circuit Court on 30 June 2026, where he is contesting the charge.
