• Man jailed for two years over sexual assault in Cork Sexual assault · Co. Cork

A 36-year-old man, Leon O'Connor, was jailed for two years at Cork Circuit Criminal Court on 23 May 2025 after a jury found him guilty on three counts of sexual assault. On 29 December 2021, a young woman who was homeless and out of work went to view a room O'Connor had advertised for rent at his house in Bishopstown, Cork, where he touched her buttocks, brushed his hand against her left breast, and caressed her vagina area during an approximately 11-minute visit. The woman reported the incident to gardaí, and the court heard O'Connor was suffering from an undiagnosed mental illness at the time. Judge Helen Boyle accepted evidence of a severe psychiatric illness and noted O'Connor was well-educated with no previous convictions.
