Leighton Morrison (49), of Tuam, Co Galway, a ballet teacher who ran three dance schools in Counties Mayo and Galway, recorded himself sexually assaulting two girls, aged eight and nine, in a costume storage room between January 2023 and June 2024. The abuse came to light in March 2024 after the nine-year-old's father noticed a change in her behaviour, and Morrison has been in custody since 2 July 2024. He pleaded guilty to six sample charges from 13 offences at Castlebar Circuit Court. In November 2025 he was sentenced to eight years in prison with the final year suspended, though a headline reports the sentence as seven years.
