Leigh Hughes, a man aged 37 (reports differ: 38) of Kildare town, was allegedly caught driving dangerously while under the influence of alcohol at Dunmurray Rise, Kildare town, on 31 December 2019. A blood sample showed he was nearly four times over the legal limit, and a charge of dangerous driving was later withdrawn by the State. An arrest warrant was issued at Naas District Court on 13 July 2023 after the judge vacated an initial order of fines and a six-year driving disqualification. He was convicted by Judge Desmond Zaidan at Naas District Court on 10 October 2024 and sentenced to a four-year driving disqualification with endorsement and no fine.
