  Lee Dargan, 37, is accused of stealing alcohol and cider worth a combined €41.90 from Aldi and Dunnes Stores in Portlaoise in April and May 2026. His bail conditions included a curfew between 11pm and 7am and not entering either store. Gardaí alleged he failed to answer 10 curfew checks in July, August and September, while Dargan said he was asleep on prescribed sleeping tablets. He appeared at Portlaoise District Court in November 2021, where his solicitor cited unprescribed medication for anxiety and depression, seizures, and ongoing engagement with psychiatric services. Judge Catherine Staines sought a Restorative Justice report and adjourned the matter to 20 January 2022.
