Leanne McCarthy, a 46-year-old Limerick woman, was charged with five counts of theft committed between 29 April and 17 August 2026 at shops in Corbally, the Crescent Shopping Centre and Ballinacurra. She was identified on CCTV for the first theft, and an objection to bail was made in court in early September 2026. On 28 September 2026 Limerick District Court sentenced her to five months in prison, backdated to 3 September, and it was reported that the goods taken were not recovered.

On 7 September 2022 at a routine traffic checkpoint in County Limerick, Shane McCarthy, of Askeaton, pushed Garda Leanne McCarthy aside and took her radio when she called for back-up. In April 2023 at Newcastle West District Court he pleaded guilty to obstruction of a Garda and threatening and abusive behaviour. Judge Carol Ann Coolican remanded him on bail for a probation report, with a return date of 4 July, and no sentence has been imposed yet.
