On 12 October 2018, Laurence Grocott, a 38-year-old man, punched a man several times in the head and face at the Capel Bar in Dublin city centre after the victim and his friend declined to buy drugs. The victim was taken by ambulance to hospital and has a scar on his jaw as a result of the attack. Grocott pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to one count of assault causing harm. In December 2021, Judge Melanie Greally sentenced him to 18 months, running concurrently with his existing nine-year term for drug offences and firing a machine gun into a family home in March 2019.
