    On 18 or 19 February 2022, Josie Kelly, a 46-year-old man, was arrested after his grey BMW jeep struck Laura Gallagher's Audi at Ballymacool, Letterkenny, before he fled the scene. Gardaí followed tyre tracks in the snow to the vehicle at The Forest, Ballymacool, where Kelly was found with a strong smell of alcohol and slurred speech. He was charged with drink-driving, dangerous driving, driving without insurance and failing to report the collision. At Letterkenny District Court in March 2025, Kelly was disqualified from driving for four years and fined €250 for failing to report the accident, with the remaining charges taken into consideration.
